Positions

Post-graduate Research Assistants

I am happy to sponsor fellowship applications for post-doctoral research assistants. Feel free to get in touch to discuss.

Supervision

PhD

I accept PhD students through either the CDT in NLP or the PhD in ILCC.

Please send all enquiries via email (with CV) using the tag [Phd-Enquiry] in the subject.

In reaching out to me, it would be helpful if you explain (briefly)

  • why you want to work with me specifically,
  • what you’ve worked on,
  • what you’d be interested in exploring going forward, and
  • how that would fit in with what I’ve been working on.

MSc

If you have not already been accepted into an MSc program at the university, I have no control over admissions.

If you are an accepted student, please note, the allocation of MSc students to supervisors is heavily constrained and not under my control. Students are usually assigned to one of their top few preferences, but there is no guarantee that they will get their top choice even if I sign off on a project.

If you still would like to me to supervise a self-proposed thesis, send me an email (with attached proposal pdf) in the second half of the first semester using the tag [MSc-Proposal] in the subject.

MSc proposals should be no longer than 2 pages (excluding pictures/references) and contain:

  • brief motivation,
  • clear hypothesis,
  • sketch of the methods/approach, and
  • evaluation metric.

Honors/MInf

The allocation of honors students to supervisors is heavily constrained and not under my control. Students are usually assigned to one of their top few preferences, but there is no guarantee that they will get their top choice even if I sign off on a project.

If you still would like to me to supervise a self-proposed thesis, send me an email (with attached proposal pdf) early in year three using the tag [UG4/MInf-Proposal] in the subject.

Proposals should be no longer than 2 pages (excluding pictures/references) and contain:

  • brief motivation,
  • clear hypothesis,
  • sketch of the methods/approach, and
  • evaluation metric.
